There are little pieces of my ninja heart that are made up of my childhood friends.  They live there still, along with the memories created by them that made me who I am.

This blog is about one of those pieces.

There was a boy named Eric, who was among the first to join my belly button naming trend that swept Picayune Memorial High in the late 1990’s.  Eric had the very best orangutan impression I have ever seen in my 26 years on Earth.

He was always there, waiting in the school yard every morning with a bear hug that wrapped all the way around my heart.

When I went off to college, he was always there when I needed to talk.  He listened to my aching heart when, during the briefest of moments, I thought The Doc and I might not make it.

He was there again when we asked him to be… as a groomsman in our wedding, and giving a speech at the reception that still makes me laugh and cry every time I see the video.  (and he would have worn the bridesmaids dress if I’d asked him too)

Eric-the-not-so-boy-quite-nearly-a-grown-up called me several months ago to tell me that he was getting married.

His voice smiled right through the phone and I imagined the little corners of his eyes crinkling up like they always did when he smiled that Eric smile.

I agreed to shoot his wedding, and I said a prayer in the back of my mind the whole way down to New Orleans.

That she would be everything I wanted her to be for my friend Eric.

That she would be the one that would complete that little checklist I had in my heart for his future bride.

Loyal, sincere, honest, hilarious, compassionate, goofy, loving, and true.

And,

she is.

Not to mention absolutely gorgeous.

Lovely Sarah,  you are a gift.

Not just to Eric, but to anyone who loves him.

Off to listen to my other gift from the wedding.  (I am officially in love with Bayside.)

Dearest blog stalkers and innocent passerby,

I will be away from my desk until Saturday morning.  I am headed to NAW’lins (New Orleans to the rest of you) to photograph the wedding of one of my bestest childhood friends.  The Doc and Beau-Dawg will probably be too busy scrounging for food, messing up the house, and missing my face to bother taking my calls or answering my email.  So, I promise to get back to ya just as soon as I get back to my desk.

I also promise share photographs of the sordid details of my trip to The Place Where Bing Began.

Most of them, anyway.

So sorry for my long absence… turns out that moving a dance studio is a LOT of work! The finer details of the exact location and timing of the new studio is still being negotiated…. but we ARE moved.

Moving sucks.

But, ya know what rocks?

Chopping off all off my hair.

It all started when I decided to be bald.
I am just not that attached to my hair and I thought it would be a good way to show my little brother that having hair isn’t all that important (he is not so thrilled about the effects radiation has had on his hair… he is, truly, quite vain about his hair and always has been… I think he is incredibly handsome either way… but, I digress).

I did come back to reality after realizing that my head is too misshapen and lumpy to be seen completely naked… so instead I decided to cut most of it off instead.

As soon as I can buy enough gel to slick it into a faux-hawk, I will share those photos too…

for now,
